What you need
Not much. If you have a desktop or laptop you leave on, you probably qualify already.
Any computer with internet that's powered on most of the day. Desktops, gaming PCs, mining rigs, NUC, old workstations — all work.
NVIDIA GPU (8GB+ VRAM) for the most workloads. OR just CPU + Ollama for transcription and embeddings. AMD GPUs work if you can run Ollama on them.
25 Mbps up is plenty for chat/inference workloads. Image gen and fine-tunes use more — 100 Mbps+ recommended for those. Symmetric fiber is ideal.
Your machine can't earn while it's asleep. Open PowerShell as Administrator and run: powercfg /change standby-timeout-ac 0 — this prevents sleep on AC power. The monitor can still turn off; only sleep mode needs to be disabled.
How earning works

Install the agent (one command, ~3 min)
Sign up as a seller, copy the install command from /seller/install, paste in PowerShell or terminal. Auto-installs Node, the wattlend-agent npm package, Chocolatey + NSSM on Windows (so it runs as a Windows service), or systemd on Linux.

Hardware auto-detection + pool join
Agent probes your GPU, VRAM, Ollama models. Lists you in every matching pool — LLM 7B, LLM 13B, SDXL, Whisper, embeddings — without you picking anything. Re-probes every 5 minutes so if you pull a new model, capabilities update automatically.

Buyers rent, you earn
When a buyer's request matches your pool, Wattlend routes it to your machine. You earn the locked hourly rate (autopilot suggests one based on your hardware tier). 70% to you, 30% platform fee. Earnings tracked in your wallet in real time.

Earnings held 7 days for chargeback protection
Standard industry practice — protects against buyer chargebacks. After 7 days, earnings move from 'held' to 'available' and you can withdraw.

Withdraw to your bank on demand
One-time Stripe Connect Express onboarding (~5 min, you provide bank routing/account + ID for KYC). After that, click Withdraw → standard US ACH transfer arrives in 2 business days. $25 minimum, $0.25 ACH fee (Stripe's, not ours).
What we do to keep your machine safe
Buyer requests go through Ollama's process model — they can't access your filesystem outside the model cache. Custom Docker workloads (opt-in only) run in containers.
If you want to game on your machine, hit pause on the relevant pool. No new rentals route to you until you resume. Active rentals continue until they expire.
Configure "don't accept new rentals between X and Y" so the agent stops accepting work overnight or during heavy use periods. Active rentals still complete.
If your heartbeat stops for 10+ minutes, we email you with recovery steps. We'll send a single follow-up when it's back online — no spam.
